Name That Tune!

One of my favorite TV shows to watch growing up was "Name That Tune" where participants received a clue and then would say how many notes they could name the song in. I was always amazed when they could do it in 2 or 3 notes!

Now, when we are in the car, we often play our own version of name that tune. When a song starts, we guess who the artist is. I'm not very good and am often mocked for my guesses. But I still keep playing, hoping that some day those bits of knowledge will somehow stick in my brain.

So, I thought a little game of Name That Tune would be fun here. Especially since I know the answers and don't have to reveal my lame guesses :)

While there is no prize for having the most points, we all know it's all about being able to say you won! I'll list the first line of a song (or maybe the second one if the song's title is in the first line). Scoring uses the honor system :) One point for the correct song title, one point for the correct artist, and five points if you can guess the theme for the songs for a possible total of 25 points. No fair using Google or any other search engine - brain power only! Most importantly, have fun!

1. Dreams are nothing more than wishes and a wish's just a dream you wish to come true.
2. I knew a man ...  and he'd dance for you in worn out shoes
3. Well they said you was high-classed well, that was just a lie
4. You know my girl just called me up and she woke me from my sleep
5. Oh I guess they'll never know how a young heart really feels
6. But you may fade, my dog will always come through
7. When the party was nice, the party was jumpin'
8. I remember to this day the bright red Georgia clay
9. I was hangin' out a last night at the top cat when the band slowed down to Merle
10. There I was with the old man stranded again so off I'd ran

P.S. - I have most of these songs on my iPod :)

Doing not just thinking

I have so many ideas and dreams, yet that's what they are - ideas and dreams. So what does it take to change them into accomplishments? Action! And for me, that means motivation.

In my mind or as I plan things, it all sounds wonderful. Then the moment comes and I often talk myself out of it or decide to do something different. Which is often followed by regret.

As I've watched the Olympics, I'm so impressed with the dedication the athletes have for their sport. The schedules they keep, their ability to visualize themselves doing what they dream, and the drive to accomplish those dreams.

All these thoughts led me to this week's quote. The real challenge for me is taking that step. I know what I want but I can't have it if I don't move.

Vision is not enough, it must be combined with venture. It is not enough to stare up the steps, we must step up the stairs. --Vaclav Havel

Here's to a week of taking steps, even if they are baby ones!

What's in a color?

Do you love taking those zany quizzes on the Internet? I do! Here is one I found on another blog: http://www.truevaluepaint.com/content/Color/ColorQuiz.aspx.

Anyway, I have to confess, I took this quiz twice with slightly different answers because I didn't like the answer I got the first time - Black! I'm not saying I don't like the color black, but I've always thought of it as the lack of color. But, the description given after the quiz seems to fit (mostly) so I guess this is my color. (By the way, who do you think creates these quizzes and do you apply for a job like this?)

Nothing can stand between you and your demand for a calm environment. To be free of conflict and disagreement is the only way to live. In fact, it’s this philosophy that probably allows you to be comfortable in conditions that would normally bother others. Your ability to focus is undisputed, and while you enjoy attention, you still have problems understanding how to handle it. No other color out lives by the golden rule as much as you do.

What color are you?

Too Cute for Eating

I found these adorable sandwich ideas and couldn't resist sharing them. I think they're a little much for my work lunches, although I do think my co-workers would like them.

If you happen to make these, I'd love to see pictures of your creations. I'll do the same - if I find some willing children to eat them :)

Enjoy!

New week, new quote

Loved this quote!

"What a man's mind can create, man's character can control." --Thomas Edison

Now if I could just get my brain to create :)

On another note, wonderful news for the weekend - my baby brother (maybe I should say my Marine brother - he probably doesn't like being referred to as a baby) is home from his tour in Afghanistan. So glad he is home safely and ever so grateful that he is willing to serve and protect the freedoms I enjoy. Love you Joe!

Owl Be Your Valentine!

While I was in Portland, I got this cute kit from Heartstrings Design. It created 10 treat bags with an adorable pink and red Owl topper. It was fun to put these together, even if I did put the bags on backwards, which meant the seal was on the front. I figure that just makes it easier to get to the M&Ms :)

Gotta love cute things, especially when they are easy to make!

Happy Valentines Day tomorrow, or as we say around here, Happy Single Awareness Day.

Life's Travels

My job involves quite a bit of travel. This past week was my first trip of 2010 - Portland Oregon for our first CK Scrapbook Convention. The event went well - lots of people shopping and taking classes. It is always great to feel their enthusiasm and excitement about a hobby we all love.

While I love to travel, coming home is oh so sweet! This week's quote seems appropriate for the week after a trip.

“The good life is one inspired by love and guided by knowledge.” -- Bertrand Russell

Hope your life is inspired!
